Islanders This Week | By Tony Stabile | Islanders Ticket Deals
News of the possible sale of the New York Islanders has been hard to come by, as owner Charles Wang likes to keep his business dealings under tight wraps; though it may be that the negotiations are further along than we may realize. A source has told HTW that the sale of the Islanders is close and the parties could be ready to close by early summer.
The source adds that the new owner (not mentioned by name) has reached out to former players about taking jobs within the new organization (obviously contingent on the sale going through). One former player specifically has agreed to take a job within the organization.
This information should not surprise anyone as Wang has successfully negotiated many big deals over the years without anyone’s knowledge. The biggest was the new arena agreement with Bruce Ratner and the Barclays Center as the news did not hit the web until the Press Conference was announced that very morning.
If in fact an agreement is close, the NHL will need to complete its vetting process of the prospective owner and the NHL Board of Governors must approve the sale before the closing.
