Ranger Preview – March 6th, 2012

New York Rangers v. New Jersey Devils

If you are in the mood for playoff hockey and don’t want to wait until April, tune into tonight’s Rangers v. Devils game. At this point in the season every game between these two teams carries a playoff atmosphere and hopefully we will be treated to a Henrik Lundqvist matchup against Marty Brodeur to make it complete.

The New York Rangers enter the game sporting the league’s best point total, while the struggling New Jersey Devils would like to do all they can to deny the Rangers a President’s Trophy while gaining much needed points for their own playoff chances.

Marian Gaborik is hot right now for the Rangers having scored in his last 3 games. Gaborik’s work all over the ice has earned him some recent praise from coach John Tortorella who has been quick to criticize Gaborik in the past. If Tort’s is praising your play to the media, your definitely doing something right.

The story is an opposite for New Jersey, who’s high scoring winger Ilya Kovalchuk has been in a goal scoring slump of late. If Kovalchuk is held off the board tonight that would make 10 straight games without a goal. It appears as Kovalchuk goes, so go the Devils, so let’s hope the Ranger defense is up to the task of controlling the all world winger.

It’s a 7:00PM start in Newark tonight so start your pools early on who drops the gloves first!

Heave Ho, 18 to go!
