The day has finally arrived!

We are here live from Citizens Bank Park for the 5th annual NHL Winter Classic.  Today’s participants as we all know are the New York Rangers and the host Philadelphia Flyers.

It is a perfect weather day for outdoor hockey.  It’s sunny and around 40 degrees but with the wind it feels A LOT colder than that.  You can feel the excitement outside the park as fans wait to get inside.  I’ve noticed more Rangers fans in the lots tailgating but I’m sure that will change as we get closer to game time.

The Rangers just gave their fans even more good news here a little less than 3 hours before puck drop:

  • -Marc Staal WILL dress for today’s game.  He has been given the green light from doctors and trainers and has told torts he is ready to go.  He will skate on the 3rd D pairing today.
  • Today’s game has been moved back to a 3pm ET start time….it was for fear of some weather coming in today, it is not here, but better safe than sorry for the NHL.
  • Flyers coach Peter Laviolette announced yesterday that Sergei Bobrovsky, NOT Ilya Bryzgalov will start today’s game in goal.  Coach says he is going with the guy who deserves it more…hard to argue with that.

I’ll have more here at Citizens Bank as the day progresses.
